We learn outdoors all year round. During the winter your child needs a warm coat, a hat, gloves and wellies as well as spare clothes. In the Summer they will need a hat, water bottle and sun tan lotion.
READING
We currently change reading books on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We will hear the children read through the week and sign their reading records. For information on how we teach phonics in Reception Class, please visit our Curriculum/Phonics page.
PE
Physical education is taught in a range of ways throughout the reception year. Our PE lesson takes place on a Monday afternoon, please can PE kits remain in school every day. We complete many different activities, such as:
- 'Boogie Bods' to develop our fine motor skills, co-ordination and upper body strength (funky fingers, dough gym, fun-fit and brain gym Zumba!)
- Formal PE sessions (ball skills, gymnastics, apparatus, team games, dance and basic movement skills)
- Through continuous provision activities including things like obstacle course making, bikes, team games and providing varied resources to promote fine and gross motor skills.
- Balance-ability - helping children to learn to balance on a two-wheeled bike, the pre-stage to riding a bike without stabilisers.
LIBRARY
We visit the library once a week as a part of our group activities. The children get to choose a book every time they visit the library, where they have access to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. These books can be borrowed and returned once read. The children will receive a quality story time during each visit to the library.
